# Granola

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Coming soon** — The Granola integration is on our roadmap and not yet available in ScaleConnect. This page describes the planned functionality based on the product specification. Features and workflows may change before release.
{% endhint %}

Granola transcribes your calls and in-person conversations, then delivers structured meeting notes you can import directly into ScaleConnect. Once imported, transcripts become part of the client's knowledge base — giving ScaleAI richer context for [AI Reviews](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/ai-reviews.md), [Broker Brain](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/broker-brain.md) conversations, and [Ask AI](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/product-docs/scaleconnect-docs/scaleai/ask-ai.md) queries.

The more client meetings you transcribe and import, the better ScaleAI understands each client's goals, concerns, and financial situation.

## What Granola Does

Granola is a standalone transcription tool that runs in the background on your Mac or iPhone. It captures audio from any source — video calls, phone calls, in-person meetings, and voice memos — and produces structured output after each session.

After a meeting, Granola generates:

* **Structured summary** — a concise overview of what was discussed, formatted in markdown
* **Full transcript** — the complete word-for-word conversation
* **Action items** — tasks and commitments mentioned during the meeting
* **Key points** — the most important topics and decisions highlighted for quick review

Granola works with any video conferencing platform including Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. It also captures in-person conversations through your device's microphone and voice memos you record on the go.

{% hint style="info" %}
Granola is a third-party product — it is not built by ScaleConnect. You'll need a Granola account and subscription to use this integration. Visit [granola.ai](https://granola.ai) for pricing and setup.
{% endhint %}

## How the Integration Works

The Granola integration connects your Granola account to ScaleConnect so you can pull meeting transcripts directly into a client's file. The connection is one-directional — data flows from Granola into ScaleConnect, not the other way around.

### Connecting Granola

1. Open **Settings → Integrations** in ScaleConnect.
2. Find the **Granola** card and click **Connect**.
3. Enter your Granola API key (available from your Granola account settings under API Access).
4. Click **Save**. The card updates to show a green **Connected** badge.

This is a one-time setup. Once connected, the import option becomes available from any client's Notes tab.

### Connection methods by plan

| Granola Plan   | Connection Method | Notes                                                                                                                                      |
| -------------- | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Enterprise** | API key | Direct integration — fastest and most reliable |
| **Business** | Zapier webhook | Requires a [Zapier](/scaleconnect-docs/integrations/custom-integrations/zapier.md) connection as a bridge between Granola and ScaleConnect |

If you're on a Granola Business plan, you'll use the Zapier integration to push transcripts into ScaleConnect instead of importing them directly. See [Zapier](/scaleconnect-docs/integrations/custom-integrations/zapier.md) for setup instructions.

## Importing a Transcript

Once Granola is connected, importing a meeting transcript into a client's file takes a few clicks.

1. Open the client in the **Client Manager**.
2. Navigate to the **Notes** tab on their detail page.
3. Click **Import from Granola**.
4. A meeting picker appears showing your recent Granola transcripts.
5. Select the meeting you want to import.
6. Granola auto-suggests a client match based on attendee email addresses. If the match is correct, confirm it. If not, search for the right client manually.
7. Click **Import**. The transcript is added to the client's Notes.

### What gets imported

Each import creates a note on the client's file containing:

| Component        | Details                                                                             |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Summary** | Granola's structured markdown summary of the meeting |
| **Transcript** | Full conversation transcript (optional — you can choose to import the summary only) |
| **Client match** | The client record the transcript is filed against |
| **Meeting date** | Timestamp from the original Granola session |
| **Attendees** | Email addresses of participants, used for auto-matching |

Imported notes are **read-only** in ScaleConnect. Granola is the source of truth for the transcript content. If you need to correct or annotate a transcript, do so in Granola — then re-import if needed.

{% hint style="info" %}
If a meeting involved multiple clients (for example, a joint session with a couple), you can import the same transcript into both client records. Each import is independent.
{% endhint %}

## How Transcripts Feed the Knowledge Base

Imported Granola transcripts are stored as notes on the client's file, which means they become part of the client's knowledge base — the full body of information ScaleAI draws on when generating insights.

Here's how transcripts enhance other ScaleAI features:

* [**AI Reviews**](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/ai-reviews.md) — Periodic portfolio reviews reference meeting context. If a client mentioned they're expecting a salary increase, or expressed concern about rising rates, the AI factors those conversations into its analysis.
* [**Broker Brain**](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/broker-brain.md) — When you ask Broker Brain a question about a client, it searches all available context including imported transcripts. "What did Sarah say about her renovation plans?" becomes answerable.
* [**Ask AI**](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/product-docs/scaleconnect-docs/scaleai/ask-ai.md) — Ad-hoc AI conversations benefit from the same enriched context. More meeting notes mean more accurate and personalised responses.
* [**AI Workflows**](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/ai-workflows.md) — Automated workflows that trigger based on client data can pick up signals from transcripts, like a client mentioning a fixed rate expiry or intent to purchase.

The knowledge base is cumulative. Every transcript you import adds to the AI's understanding of the client. Over time, this creates a detailed picture of the client's evolving situation, preferences, and goals — something that's difficult to maintain manually across a growing client book.

## Requirements

Before you can use the Granola integration, you'll need:

| Requirement              | Details                                                                                   |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Granola subscription** | Enterprise or Business plan (free plans don't include API access or Zapier integration) |
| **Granola app** | Desktop app (Mac) or iPhone app — at least one is required for transcription |
| **ScaleConnect account** | Active broker account with access to Settings → Integrations |
| **Google Calendar** | Recommended but not required — helps Granola identify meeting attendees for auto-matching |

### Supported platforms and devices

Granola transcribes from:

* **Desktop (Mac)** — video calls via any platform (Meet, Zoom, Teams), screen share conversations, in-person meetings via microphone
* **iPhone** — phone calls, in-person meetings, voice memos

Windows support for Granola is not currently available. Check [granola.ai](https://granola.ai) for the latest platform support.

## Best Practices

### Transcribe every client meeting

The value of the knowledge base compounds over time. Even short check-in calls contain useful signals — a passing mention of a new job, a question about offset accounts, or a comment about market conditions. Make it a habit to have Granola running for every client interaction.

### Import promptly

Import transcripts soon after the meeting while the context is fresh. This ensures the client's knowledge base stays current, and any follow-up AI Reviews or Broker Brain queries have the latest information.

### Review the auto-match

Granola matches transcripts to clients based on attendee email addresses. This works well when the client's email in ScaleConnect matches their calendar or meeting email. If a client uses a different email for meetings, double-check the auto-suggestion before confirming.

### Use voice memos for in-person notes

Met a client at a coffee shop or had a quick phone call? Record a voice memo in Granola immediately after. Even a one-minute recap of what was discussed adds valuable context to the client's file.

<details>

<summary>Can I edit a transcript after importing it?</summary>

No. Imported transcripts are read-only in ScaleConnect. Granola is the source of truth. If you need to make corrections, edit the transcript in Granola and re-import it.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does Granola record my screen or video?</summary>

No. Granola captures audio only and produces text transcripts. It does not record video or capture screen content.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I import old meetings that happened before I connected Granola?</summary>

Yes, as long as the meetings were transcribed by Granola. The import picker shows all available transcripts from your Granola account, regardless of when they were recorded.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens if I disconnect the Granola integration?</summary>

Previously imported transcripts remain on client files — they're part of the client's notes and won't be removed. You just won't be able to import new transcripts until you reconnect.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is my meeting data secure?</summary>

Granola processes audio on-device where possible and uses encrypted connections for any cloud processing. Transcripts in ScaleConnect are stored with the same security as all other client data. See [Data & Privacy](https://github.com/scaleapp-au/scaleconnect-docs/blob/main/integrations/data-and-privacy.md) for ScaleConnect's security practices.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.scaleconnect.com.au/scaleconnect-docs/integrations/custom-integrations/granola.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
